This past week Buffalo Media Group was in Kona, Hawaii on the Big Island. Let me start by saying this was the most epic day of sport fishing that I have ever experienced! So we chartered High Noon Sportfishing Charters out of Kona on my birthday albeit! We had lines in the water as soon as we left the harbor and had our first hook up at 9:45 am. I was able to land my first short-nosed spearfish! I have always desired catching a spearfish for years and my wish finally came true! I knew they were a very sought after billfish and only native to Hawaii. So with that…mission accomplished, a perfect birthday present. So we all put it in cruise control and sat back after landing my prize fish. We were within about a half hour of heading back to the docks and all just hanging out chatting when SNAP…….ZZZZZZZZzzzzzzzz!!! “Fish ON! It’s a big one!” says our very experienced guide. So this time it was my wife Chrissy’s turn and she did not hesitate leaping from the top deck and hopping in the chair. After the first few cranks, we knew we had a huge marlin on. It dove straight down and would not stop running! The thrill and excitement in those first few moments is almost too hard to put into words…pure excitement! So now the work begins. For the next 80 minutes, my wife reeled and fought this beast until she was utterly exhausted. When the blue marlin finally showed herself, she was enormous! I have never seen a fish that big before and now it was officially landed and on our boat! Normally the marlin is cut loose but this one had exhausted itself to her death. So after all, we were able to bring her back to the docks for an official weigh in. Ready for this…four-hundred, forty-six pounds! That’s right a 446 lb. Pacific Blue Marlin….unbelievable! We will forever have the memory of cruising the Kona Coast chasing giant blues and spearfish!
