This past week Buffalo Media Group headed up to the north shore of Minnesota to capture the winter blizzard that came down on Lake Superior. We have been wanting for many years to capture the early winter storms on the north shore and finally we caught a break in our busy schedule and had the right timing. The gusts were coming from from east to west at 30-40 mph. We knew that this would equate to huge swells! We headed up to Split Rock Lighthouse then onto Black Rock Beach and finally to Tettegouche State Park. Each spot was amazing and unique unto itself. This series here was shot toward the last part of the afternoon when the swells were at their peak. The cacophony of crashing waves all around was so incredibly loud and exhilarating! Unless you experienced it that day, it really does no good on trying to describe it other that every few minutes it sounded like a giant bomb was exploding. It was those giant crashes that shot water and mist some 40 ft. in the air. We were fortunate enough to capture a few. We were shooting in RAW burst mode at 14 fps (14 frames a second). So out of the 3,000+ images shot in that hour, we narrowed it down to this series of 100. Hope you all enjoy!
